Expansion Second In Five Years

Gulfstream Aerospace's announcement Monday that is adding 1,000 jobs at its facilities in Savannah is the company's second major expansion in the last five years. Last year, it completed a $300 million project announced in 2006, that added a general aviation maintenance facility and manufacturing, paint, and research and development facilities.

The company added 1,100 jobs with that project.

Georgia ranks eighth in the U.S in aviation industry employment with more than 80,000 workers. Aviation exports also ranked eighth in the U.S., at $3.4 billion worldwide in 2009.

Gulfstream is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Va. It employs more than 9,000 workers at seven locations.
